LOOKING FOR MISTER SALTY

I was in the supermarket yesterday and I saw a box of Mister Salty pretzels. And it said on the box “Now with 30% less sodium!”
The man’s name is "Mister Salty." Not "Mister 30% Less Salty."
Maybe if you’re on a low-sodium diet you shouldn’t be buying a product called Mister SALTY.
I feel bad for Mister Salty. All his life he’s been good at one thing. Now the corporate suits have taken it away from him.
Can you imagine the meeting?
“Mister Salty, come in! Can we call you ‘Salty?' Salty, we love your work. We really do. But we need you to be – how can I put this – just a little bit less salty. But keep the sailor hat. The look really works for you. Hey, thanks so much for coming in. On your way out can you send in Mrs. Butterworth? It’s so sad. She was just diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. They’re going to have to amputate her flip-top spout.”

Cute website. I went to SIX grocery stores looking for a box of Mr. Salty Pretzels for a recipe for a party mix I was making. I could not find ONE store that sold them! Now this may be a bit extreme, but this particular recipe NEEDS thin pretzels and I can't find them! Any ideas?
Try a product called "Pretzel Stix." They come in individually-wrapped packages of six (school lunch size). They are very thin, just like Mr. Salty. I think they are made by a company called Bachman.
Does anyone remember the Mr Salty Pretzel story? I was trying to tell my friends about it, but couldn't quite remember the details.
You guys are in for a treat. Have you heard of Salty Stix from Shultz. There not very easy to find so look them up on the net. They have a listing of stores that carry them. These pretzles are the closest thing I've ever found to Mr Salty pretzles. To me they taste almost identical.

Mr. Salty went out of business several years ago after several church group protests over the name "Mr. Salty" and it's connection to the character being a Seaman. They somehow managed to finigle some kind of sexual connotation to all of that and the company not only discontinued production, but pulled all unsold product off shelves world-wide. That is the most ridiculous travesty I've ever heard. Shame on those conservative trouble-makers! I loved those pretzels!!!
Yes JB. I found the Shultz brand to be the closest match to the Mr. Salty Line. I buy them at a store called Farm and Fleet. Mr. salty was the best pretzel ever!!!
For Chex Party Mix, you might enjoy Snyder's Ultra Thin Pretzels. You may have to search several grocery stores to find them. Publix carries them here. WARNING: The Ultra Thins are packaged in a box, not a bag. So they may be on a different shelf. Ask the grocery store stockers -- they know where everything is!
Oops ... 11/20/07 anonymous here ... I goofed ... it was, in fact, the Shultz brand I found instead of Snyder's ... happy huntingQ
I just purchased 12 boxes from Amazon.com and let me tell you...
they are just like Mr. Salty.
I never thought I would enjoy this taste again. I highly recommend them. They come in a box the same size as Mr. Salty did. I read somewhere that the folks who make these for Shultz worked for Nabisco during Mr. Salty's run.
Get some today!!!!!
Thanks dog. I just tried to buy them on Amazon and they were on back order! The word has gotten out to the Mr. Salty fans...
really funny commentary! bon voyage mr. salty.
buchman pretzels are just as good, but they are hard to find now as well,,,what's up with that...
i actually worked for schultz's and they made mister salty pretzels for nabisco thats why they taste the same
Sorry, nothing beats Mr. Salty...Mr. Salty with some sliced swiss cheese and beer. That is all a man needs.
Can not find the Shultz salty sticks anywhere. last year I bought them on Amazon but they have not had any in stock for over a year now. they do NOT sell them in the state of NJ or NY. I would pay almost anything to get them again. I can wipe out a box in one day..
I've been missing Mr. Salty for years and years. Yesterday, I turned around in my local 'old-fashioned' deli - Husk's Deli - in West Seattle and saw a box that made my heart glad. Blue and cream, a box with a picture of old delivery trucks on the front; announcing itself as H. K. Anderson Salty Stix Ultrathin Pretzel. They have been made in Lancaster PA since 1888!!!
They're pretty close in appearance and crunch and the amount of salt on what I remember as Mr. Salty. However, there just seems to be something slightly off in the taste. But they're absolutely good enough to take on a trip down memory lane; three or four broken off in your mouth to let the salt soak your tongue.
I am starting a facebook group to bring back Mister Salty. If you are on fb, please look for "Bring Back Mr. Salty" and add your voice.
